Beautiful Sugar Flowers

About Our Sugar Flowers:

Our sugar flowers are created petal by petal – thinned, veined, and often wired together to look like a real bloom. They are made from an edible sugar paste so they are 100% food-safe; however, they are really not for eating, as they may contain wires and/or a foam core.

Sugar flowers are often saved and preserved as keepsakes. Although they are created from a soft, pliable sugar paste, once they have thoroughly dried, they are similar to porcelain, and can last indefinitely if they are kept in a cool, dry, place, away from the sun. Note - just like porcelain, they are very fragile, and can chip/break easily, so please handle them with care.

All of the cake flowers pictured on this website are hand-made sugar flowers.

Why Sugar Flowers?

  • They won't contaminate your cake. They are a great food-safe alternative to using fresh flowers. In the state of PA, it is actually a food safety violation to place fresh flowers on cakes (although most bakeries and florists ignore this). Many types of fresh wedding flowers are toxic and should not be placed on food. Most of them are sourced from countries that do not regulate the chemicals sprayed on them, and they contain an obscene amount of pesticides/fungicides. With sugar flowers, you don’t need to worry about chemical residue or bacteria being transferred onto your cake and possibly making someone sick.
  • Customization is endless - we can size them appropriately for your cake so that they are not too large and cumbersome. We can color them to an exact match of your wedding colors. We can make fantasy flowers in metallic colors or flowers that are unbelievably realistic.
  • You won't see any wilting or brown edges on them as the night goes on.
  • We also make the greenery to go with your flowers - so we can control the size, shape, and length of the leaves, the branching and movement of them, and the color - from a sage green to a deep dark forest green. Greenery gives life to the flowers!
  • A little goes a long way. When it comes to sugar flowers, you don’t need many to make your cake pop. A few well-placed flowers can make a cake go from plain to absolutely elegant.
  • They are the WOW factor on a cake - I can't tell you how many times we've seen guests staring at our wedding cakes in awe - shocked that the flowers are not real.
  • As mentioned above, they can be saved and preserved as keepsakes.

Preserving Your Sugar Flowers:

  • When we deliver a wedding cake with sugar flowers, we also provide a box for them - inside will be several sheets of tissue/parchment paper. We will instruct the venue to place your flowers in this box when they remove them from the cake.

  • You'll want to remove any buttercream that may have gotten on the flowers. To do this, use a dry paper towel or tissue to gently wipe the buttercream off the backs of the flowers, and use a Q-tip or a small artist's paintbrush to very gently clean buttercream off the petals.

  • You may not want to save every single flower that was on your cake, especially if there were many small "filler" flowers. I always suggest picking the best ones - the "statement" flowers and a few others that you like.

  • There may be some breakage among the flowers, as they are very delicate, and the petals can chip when they are removed from the cake, placed in the box, and transported home. If you have a flower that you'd like to save that has a chipped petal, you can use a nail file to gently rub over the chipped part of the petal - that will smooth it out and make the chip less noticeable.

  • Some flowers will have wires attached to them. If you are planning to arrange the flowers by inserting them into styro or flower foam, you'll want to keep the wires attached. (Just be sure to clean off any buttercream residue.)

  • The backs of the flowers can be hot-glued to a surface (ie. - a shadow box or the base of a bell jar). So in this case, you may want to cut any wires off so they don't interfere with your arranging and gluing. Note - once you hot glue the flowers onto a surface, they will be stuck there permanently.

  • My favorite way to preserve/display sugar flowers is to use a bell jar. Bell jars have a base and a separate glass cloche that sits over top of the base. I purchased mine (see below) from Amazon for about $30. I simply arranged my flowers on the base, moving them around until I was happy with the way they were displayed. I then used a hot glue gun, dispensing small amounts of glue onto the base, underneath the flowers and greenery. It doesn't take much - just enough so the flowers are attached to the base and don't shift.

  • Carefully put the glass cloche over top, and this will protect them from dust and humidity. And be sure to keep it out of direct sunlight, as that will fade the color of the flowers.

  • You now have a beautiful keepsake from your wedding cake - it would look super cute placed next to a framed photo of you and your spouse feeding each other that first piece of cake!
